This buying guide will focus on the differences between the two, which types of signals can be transmitted through HDMI, which other ports are typically found on televisions, and how you can use adapters to create compatibility between these different ports. Analog interfaces are being rapidly replaced and driven off the market by digital ones. Adapters can create some compatibility between varying connection options, allowing you to continue to operate older devices with a new TV. You can also buy adapters for many other types of analog ports. RCA cables with red or white indicators are for playing sound from a stereo, which means you can connect your stereo system to your TV through these ports to improve sound quality, since you’ll be playing sound through your home speaker system. This lets you play files saved with extensions like.

Matt Klein December 24, , Once the domain of dorky headsets, Bluetooth is now in mice, keyboards, phones, computers, tablets, fitness trackers, and so much more. Tiny Receiver, Huge Possibilities Bluetooth receivers pair with any Bluetooth-enabled device, allowing you to stream everything, from anywhere, to your very non-portable speakers.
We recommend you do a little research before making your own purchasing decisions. Bluetooth receivers can come with a variety of outputs and features depending on your needs. Some might have optical audio connections, others sport RCA plugs for left and right channels. You can pair via Bluetooth, or for a little more money, some models come with NFC for instant tap-to-pair abilities. A simple LED on the front tells us when it is paired to a device.
The setup is simple. With that done, the only thing left to do is to pair it. This particular model can store up to eight different audio sources. When the device is plugged in, it will automatically broadcast its identifier. Simply open the Bluetooth settings on your preferred device, and connect.

There could be some problems though. In order to get an increase in sound output the two subwoofers sound waves need to reach your ears in phase. Sound waves cause a slight air pressure increase followed by a slight air pressure decrease alternating up and down at the frequency of the bass sound. With that in mind visuallize what happens if sub A is pushing the cone outward to increase the air pressure and sub is pulling the cone in to reduce the air pressure.
The result will be a canceling of the sound with only the difference between the two volumes displaced reaching your ears. This will result in less bass than if you only used one subwoofer!
Nov 09, · you could do it 2 ways use a speaker selector but then you divide the power across all the speakers which sucks because then you can blow them due to lack of power causing distortion or you could invest in a receiver and play them on 7 ch stereo utilizing the amplifiers power x 7 then you could also use it as a theater system as well just add a : Resolved.
Friday, November 25, – If “eight speakers” means eight pairs of speakers, then we need to clear up the confusion. You don’t mention what receiver you have but I would hope it’s a fairly safe bet to conclude any modern “stereo” receiver has two pairs of speaker outputs wired internally to be in parallel. Very little that applies to a two channel stereo receiver transfers easily to a 5. In other words, with a two channel system, when only speaker “A” is engaged, the amplifier sees a load which represents one pair of speakers.
When both “A” and “B” speaker outputs are engaged, the amplifier sees a parallel connection which would then show the amp approximatey half the impedance of the lower impedance speaker of the two pairs.

That is, in the one amplifier box, there are two different amplifiers. For the purposes of this article, we are talking about connecting multiple speakers to a single amplifier only, that is, either the left or the right, or any single amplifier. Of course you can connect multiple speakers to both the left and right amp of a stereo — you just need to follow the principles twice, once for each amp. Multiple Speakers on One Amplifier By adding an extra speaker to the output of an amplifier, you are adding to the load of the amplifier.
That is, two speakers is double the load of one speaker. Most amplifiers can cope with a load of two speakers.
Setting up the R-S only took me a few minutes to wire up a spare pair of speakers I had lying around and I was streaming music in no time. Pairing my iPhone 6 to the receiver was quick and easy. There was a certain feeling of liberty not having to set speaker levels and distances, fiddling with bass management, or running an auto-EQ program.
An external speaker connection can be achieved wirelessly via Bluetooth or wired through the 3. The issue around using the 3. This means that, when using a wired connection, your wired speakers must be turned on if you ever want to use the Echo Dot. On the other hand, with Bluetooth speakers, the Echo Dot switches back to its internal speakers when the Bluetooth speakers are turned off.
Even if the Bluetooth speakers are on, you have the flexibility to sever the connection hands-free by simply asking Alexa, so you can switch back to the internal speaker at will. If you have your heart set on using wired speakers with the Echo Dot, there are things you can do to make wired speakers a lot more convenient.
Connecting a cable to the 3. This includes all Alexa communication, and not just music output. The Echo Dot has no way to know if there is an active speaker on the other end, so it must assume there is one if you connect the 3. If you want to use the Echo Dot with wired speakers and still retain the option to communicate with Alexa while those speakers are off, you have three options. Your second option is to connect a Bluetooth Audio Receiver to your wired speakers and connect the Echo Dot to the receiver wirelessly via Bluetooth.
Your third option is to use a Bluetooth speaker in addition to your wired speakers. If the Echo Dot is connected to both wired speakers via the 3. The fact that the Echo Dot is capable of switching from a Bluetooth audio connection to a wired audio connection via a verbal command is good news.

Many audiophiles still swear by the sound produced by vintage stereo receivers. Even though some of these receivers can be 30 years old or more, those in good condition still produce sound that can rival or even exceed some high-end digital units. Good quality vintage receivers are still available, and with a little research, it can be the heart of any audio system.

It is extremely important that you make sure everything is connected to the right place in order for your system to function properly. HDMI and Component Video connections are able to deliver p, i or p high definition signals. Digital Coax or Fiber Optic connections are both considered to be digital connections. Your receiver might be able to create surround sound and other audio formats through HDMI. It may be necessary to connect using Component Video and Digital Audio outputs, depending on how your system is configured.

The OC This is much easier that you think. First of all you don’t need to use 70 or 25 volt speakers though you surely can. As an example hook two eight ohm speakers in series and you’ll have a load of 16 ohms. Now hook two of those networks in parallel and you’ll be back to 8 ohms with 4 speakers. If you use a stereo receiver with two outputs you’re up to 8 speakers.
This is generally easy to maintain if you are just directly hooking up speakers to a receiver or amp, but when considering multiple rooms and speakers it quickly becomes increasingly difficult to identify the overall resistance.
Friday, June 18, – The Sony DE series is their value line. My experience with this line of Sony receivers the , and during HT use is that the power supply is woefully inadequate and you might actually be getting 30 wpc rms rather than the advertised wpc when it is under the load of a 5. That is, driving 5 speakers the power supply appears to have substantial difficulty in powering all channels.
You might actually get wpc during 2 channel stereo. While that is in HT, you are describing driving a substantially greater number of speakers. I just don’t think this receiver is up to the task, is simply is not powered well enough. Because of this, I cannot imagine this receiver being able to run the load you describe. What you are suggesting doing is a substantial load for a receiver. My suggestion would be to quickly return that sony receiver. For the money you paid for this, and assuming you want to stay with a receiver, try the yamaha htr , that will give you 95 wpc in ALL 7 channels.
The power supply is excellent and this receiver can handly lower impedance loads that it would be likely to encounter in this set up. The other one that comes to mind, in this price range is the Onkyo tsx
Could one use multiple speakers with the same iPod/Phone/Pad
Connecting 8 pairs of speakers to 1 receiver Hook it up according to Tony’s directions and you won’t fry your amp, but you would in a parallel connection. Hooking up 8 speakers in series though would quickly clip your amp because of the 8X voltages it would be required to output. Are you using all 8 speakers all of the time? It looks like your receiver is rated at watts into 8 ohms continuously. Your current speakers are rated to take all of this power, so to get max performance out of them you would have to disconnect the other 6.
From the sounds of things though you’re not looking for insane levels, and assuming you hook them up properly as in an 8 way switch comperable to the one you have now you could reasonably expect 5 clean watts per speaker.
Jan 11, · I have two receivers and one set of speakers. One receiver is an inexpensive late model that is okay for home theater, and another is a late 70’s much better receiver that I want to use for audio-only applications.
VIDEOS Advanced Speaker Wiring Techniques For the basic user simply hooking up a pair of speakers to a 2 channel amplifier is pretty straightforward, and doing so will never cause them any problems. But what if you need more speakers? Well things can get a little more complex. First off there are a couple of important things we need to know about the setup and hardware.
We can look on the back of the speaker and see that each speaker has a 4 ohm impedeance. Impedeance in short is a measurement of resistance in ohms the lower the ohm load the easier it is for electricity to flow through the load speakers. While it would seem that a lower ohm load is better because it’s easier for current to flow, this isn’t the case at all.
If your combined ohm load on your amplifier is lower than the amplifier can handle it will cause your amplifier to rapidly overheat resulting in the amplifier shutting down or burning up. However; less resistance does equal more power coming out of the amplifier so we have to find a balance point. Basic Parallel Wiring The most obvious way to connect 2 speakers per channel is to just twist the speaker leads together positive to positive, negative to negative then connect them to a single set of output terminals on the amplifier.
Wiring like this will result in a 2 ohm load at the amplifier, unless your amplifier specifies that it is 2 ohm stable wiring your speakers up this way will result in overheating and possibly damage to your amp. Whenever you wire speakers in parallel the impedance or ohm load is cut in half! Basic Series Wiring To avoid an ohm load that is too low we could try Series wiring.
