Really friendly helpful staff especially Nikki and Jeff , immaculate toilet block, useful freezers for icepacks. The four minute solar shower is warm and plenty of time; didn’t queue once in the week we were there. Our pitch was sheltered and within the sun for the majority of the day. You will need strong tent pegs but mainly because the ground was extremely dry when we arrived.

It was quiet at night. You will need a torch after dark. Camp shop was useful for bread, milk and bacon. Nice farm shop on A35 near Axminister. The walk into Lyme is lovely and all downhill. We recommend the fossilwalking from the museum need to book in advance. Apr 26, by tennyson We camped at Hook Farm during the Easter holidays this year April and absolutely loved it.

The campsite is peaceful and well looked after. The pitches are more spacious than most, and because of the terraced layout it felt private and far away from the other campers. The little playground was a meeting point for the children who frequently got together for badminton or football, and the campsite owner thoughtfully left a space clear for them to do this, much to the joy of my nine year old son!

Understanding Inverters So you are off caravanning and you are going to stay at a site that does not have mains Electrical Hook Up EHU and you need to run a mains powered device…. Well you can buy an inverter that converts 12 volts DC Direct Current from your leisure battery to volts AC Alternating Current , the same as the sockets in your house.

But there are some drawbacks, but before we look at that, you need to know a little more about how inverters work. So how can an inverter create hi-voltage AC from low voltage DC? Ok, lets first look at how you generate electricity. Each time a pole passes the coil a small electric current is produced. As the pole passes and the next pole lines up to pass, the magnetic field is reversed and the current starts to flow in the opposite direction. Rotate the magnet fast enough and an alternating current is produced.

Drawing 1 The shape of output of this is called a sine wave. As the magnets north pole approached the coil, the magnetic lines of force passing through the coil are weak and little current Drawing 2 is generated, as the north pole gets nearer, the magnetic field gets stronger, increasing the amount of current generated as the magnetic pole is directly opposite or 90 degrees to the coil, the largest current is generated.

We can see in Drawing 2 the relationship between the angle and the current generated. The blue line is the classic sine wave shape.

How to tow a caravan Date: Before you hitch up your rig check out our top 10 tips for safe, fuss-free towing on the road. Hitching up your rig and setting off into the sunset with miles of sunburnt land ahead is one of the great Australian dreams. Top 10 towing tips 1. Not to mention driving on rough bush tracks, reversing, braking and hitching up. A number of tow vehicle courses offer a lot more than just reversing. Everything from safety and maintenance checks to trailer dimensions to types of hitches to pre and post-trip inspections are on the agenda.

These are all items that could make or break a caravanning trip and should be considered not only from a safety point of view but also an enjoyment one. Rear-view cameras can be helpful, but they distort distance and the lenses get coated with road grime. Standard mirrors need to be supplemented by clip-on extensions or replacements that are wider-set than the standard peepers. Many drivers have a fear of reversing caravans which usually comes from a lack of experience, so the easiest way to eradicate the fear is to practise reversing in a controlled environment — a deserted shopping centre car park is ideal.

The van should pull up square with no sideways swing. There are lots of connections between your life and your brakes so a quick check might just save your life, as well as the lives of passengers and other motorists. Heavy items have the potential to cause damage to the caravan chassis and bodywork and can cause severe loading balance problems.
